matt

Today’s birthday marks a very special day for me as a coach. When Matt came to Precision last year, he was in dire straights. His health was not on point and he was an addict. In just over a year’s time he has cleaned himself and his life up. He’s transformed his body and brought forth many positive changes. Health is now a priority for Matt. I’ve watched his mind become more sharp, and in return he now has a great job and his very own place. He has grown immensely happy due to his accomplishments. Sure, he has his bad days, but don’t we all?

At Precision our competitors call us the “competition gym.” It gives them an out when comparing us to them. A label if you will. Sure, we have fantastic athletes that shine bright among the CrossFit community, but we also have stories like Matt. Matt is what CrossFit is all about. He represents the majority of the people that make up Precision. People come from all walks of life and find community at Precision. They are Dan Riggs who wanted to lose 100lbs for his daughters wedding, they are working parents looking to stay active to better their children’s lives, and they are Matt Markowitz. His lifestyle change is an example of what a positive support network, such as the “wall of blue,” can do; coaches who care can help promote a lifestyle change that betters one’s health and wellness. Matt constantly thanks me. He tells me regularly that I changed his life and how happy he is. To be honest, I get kind of emotional thinking about the guy. I am so incredibly proud of him. He has accomplished so much in the past year. I truly light up when I see him walk into the gym each day because I know what it means to him. But he has no idea how much he means to Precision. We are his home and we will always be here for him. Matt, you are one of the people I am most proud of. You’re one of the reasons why I do what I do. You are a big reason why Precision is so special to many. Don’t ever forget that, my friend. Enjoy the big 3-0. I know it will be one of many leading on to the rest of your life of sobriety and happiness. I hold my glass of water to you and say, “Salud.” Here’s to you. Happy Birthday!
