My thoughts on the Boston Marathon
As like everyone else I am in shock. This is such a horrific event and to think this act was done at a sporting event such as a Marathon scares the heck out of me. I mean let’s face it; the Boston Marathon was the last place where anyone could imagine a bomb going off. You would think that a terrorist attack would happen at a bigger event like a pro baseball or football game, or something along these lines, not a marathon. But here we are, it happened, and it is tragic. Once again, I find myself answering my middle schooler’s questions as to why this happened. Coach, can you believe it? Could it happen here? Are you scared? Middle schooler’s can be so tough while going through their developing adolescent stages. However, tragedy always brings out the child in them as they search for answers. It is a shame this is the second time this year I have had to answer these questions. I do not really have good answers for them. I try my best, but how do you really make kids feel safe anymore? I just tell them to be careful and to always pay attention to their surroundings. But for Pete’s sake, this bomb went off under some portable bleachers! What if this happened at a CrossFit event? I know this is very rare, but it is now a definite possibility. I could care less about my life to be honest. I mean yes, I do not want to die or anything, but I look at my children. My son loves watching CrossFit events. My parents love to cheer on their boys, as they have done since we were children. I mean if anything were to happen to them while watching me. It would just kill me inside. I now have to pray that my family is safe while watching me pick a barbell over my head! What is the world coming to? All I can do is promise to pay extra attention to the events I run. Make sure everything seems ok. That and always let my family know how much I love them. I know it is rare for something to happen at a CrossFit event, but we said the same thing in regards to an elementary school and marathons. My heart goes out to all those who were lost or injured on Monday. It is a shame we have to live in fear. To making the world a better place no matter what obstacles in our way. Today we do this wod for all those affected by this horrible tragedy. Think of them and lay it all on the line.
